Social Fabric of Migration is a research and art project by Varvara Zhemchuzhnikova, textile artist and designer (MA student in Fashion and Collection Design, Aalto University).
The project focuses on visualising how similar and different migration experiences can be nowadays. Documented stories of people, who have moved from one country to another, are presented in the exhibition in the shape of three canvases. The canvases that evoke the Finnish traditional craft technique – ryijy – are a metaphor meaning that each of us is part of a community that we influence and shape, no matter what the official statuses in our papers say.
The exhibition is meant for audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
