Description

We all wear clothes to express our personalities, feelings and belonging to a particular group of people. Following the artist Grayson Perry’s alter ego Claire and the fashion scholar Elizabeth Wilson’s statement of fashioned individuals as “walking collages, artworks, and contemporary installations”, Fashion Friday focuses on the question of identity. How do contemporary fashion designers interpret identity as gendered, sexualized or ethnic?

The fashion installation is curated from the collections of Aalto University’s fashion design students, and conversation on fashion, art, and identity by leading international scholars of fashion: Professor Hazel Clark (Parsons School of Design), Shaun Cole (London College of Fashion), Dr. Anna-Mari Almila (London College of Fashion). Curator: Professor Annamari Vänskä (Aalto University).

Fashion installation: 10-18, Kiasma’s Lobby
Conversation: 16–18, Kiasma Seminar room, first floor

Collaboration: Kiasma, Friends of Kiasma and Aalto University
